What  I hope for Omani Press in the future

1. Giving more press freedom for journalists.

2. Provide practical training for students in colleges and universities who study this major .

3. Integration of electronic media to the printed press to produce the best results to the parties.

 

4. Honouring excellence in journalism throughout the year .

 

5. Activation of the press in the schools around the Sultanate .

 

6. Improve the level of websites of newspaper and magazine in the Sultanate .

 

7.Set up  a conferences and seminars with presence of people who have experience in the field of journalism even form  inside or  outside the Sultanate .

 

8.The establishment of competitions throughout the year , such as : for the best newspaper article , for the best investigative  report, for the best journalist .... etc.

 

9. Make way for the employment of graduates who may add something new to the Omani press .

 

10.Customized training courses to teach people  everything about the press and journalist.

What is the yellow journalism?

 

Those that do not have credibility, and accuracy but tend to exaggeration and it  based on  rumors and  false news  ​​without  make sure if  it is correct or not.

 

 Or ,  it can be  the newspapers that are interested to  publish news of crime ,  violence, sex ,  excitement without considering the seriousness of it in  the  readers.

 

 And ,  their main goal is to collect profit.

why they use ' Yellow Journalism ' as a name ?

 

I think they choose color to show that the journalism  not clear their is something make it not normal .

 

And , this type of journalism not show the real facts and informations , their way is to cover the real things .

Is this kind of journalism  exists or not?

Of course it is exists ,  and it exists in abundance.

 

Knowing that this kind is hurtful, but this  press is quite popular among the people .

What  do I see?

I learned that the press is the first face of the fact  

So,

Who ....?

 

Sheikh Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali , The Chairman of the Muscat Press and Publishing and the Editor of  "Times of Oman" newspaper.

 

He was born in Muscat in 1939.

What he was did?

 

• He began his career  in Aramco company in Saudi Arabia  in 1954.

•  He moved to work in  Kuwait, he served as Chairman of the Division archives in the Ministry of Post, Telegraph and Telephone in Kuwait. 

 

Then, he work as secretary in the Department of Petroleum in Abu Dhabi. 

And , in 1972 , he work in  the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director for Consular Affairs.

In 1974, He was appointed general consul of the Sultanate in Mumbai.

Then ,  from 1989 until 1994 he was Honorary general consul  of the Republic of  Philippines in Muscat.

And, he was a member of the Advisory Board for two terms.

And, he was  member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry  in Oman  for  8 years.

Then,  he was a  member in the Authority of  resolve commercial disputes for 6 years.

In 1975, he was the  foundations of  Al Essa house for  Printing and Publishing.

He was published ‘ Times of Oman newspaper ‘ that was  the first English newspaper in the Sultanate and he was  the edited president for it until his death.

And, he  was a member of the Organization of World Press.

 He was a member of the Gulf Press Union.

He was  coverage  of official visits of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, may God protect him.

And , He was generosity  in '  Media Innovation Forum' which was organized by the Sultan Qaboos University.

His death:

 

He go to the mercy of God at the age of 74 years, after a long drive with journalistic work in the Sultanate of Oman.

 

 Where he died in Germany 21th  of February , 2013 after a long travel  illness continue for a year.

The Electronic Journalism

 

First,  we need to know : what is the  Electronic media?

 

It is media that use device which work with internet to be communicate with other around the world.

It is to have news in the electronic media where all people around the world can see you news .

 

Now, almost newspapers and magazines make a websites for them to put their news online for people .

 

And  people don't have time to sit and read news from  the print newspapers . When they stay in front of their computer to start their working they read online newspapers.

Last thing, the changes that happen when  the electronic journalism come:

 

• Journalistic work environment affected: the work becom in door  use internet to do it .

 

• On  time: News is obtained via electronic media at the time it occurs while the same news published in the next day via the printed press.

 

• Interaction: Readers can via electronic media to communicate with the owners of the newspaper , exchange messages with them  and express their points of view.

 

• Multimedia:  electronic journalism provided news for the readers across the sound, image and text while the printed press is limited to text and image.

 

• Availability  the economy of the countries:  the printed press is losing money in the paper that used for the printing and in distribution of newspapers but electronic journalism canceled those thing and no need for them.

Famous Investigative Journalist

The most famous journalists in the 20th century appeared in the first half of 1970s.

Robert Upshur Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the reporters of the Washington Post, investigated the Watergate break-in and first cracked the Watergate scandal in August 1972, which led to the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon in 1974.

The first report about the break-in at the Democratic National Committee's headquarters at the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. broke out on June 17, 1972.

 Most of newspapers dismissed the story, calling the incident a 'caper.'

 However, Woodward teamed with Bernstein raised the issue of the link between the burglars and President Nixon's reelection committee with their first report for the Watergate scandal.

Eventually their reporting made it clear that the break-in had been orchestrated by high-ranking officials of the Nixon administration and the Committee to Re-elect the President.

 On the course of their reporting, the big picture of political 'dirty tricks' of White House was revealed, which included wiretapping, burglary, and disruption of Democratic Party activities.

Their series of articles uncovered the deep connection between the political misconducts and 'creep' which led to Congressional hearings and the conviction of several Nixon cornies.

Two years and 8 days after the first report broke out, President Nixon appeared on TV screen for his resignation speech.

Woodward and Bernstein won most of major journalism award, including the Pulitzer Prize.

 They coauthored two best sellers, 'All the President Men' (1974) and 'The Final Days' (1976).

The first book was made into a movie in 1976 and hit the box office record.

They are make a  high change in the major of Investigation.

 To be good journalist  you have to build good relationships with people to help you when you want information from them , be your sourses if you want them oneday.

Neutrality:

If you want to be good journalist you have to write the  stories which you find  it as it in the real life,  and  ask for opinion from the both sides of the story .


You are as  a journalist not allow for you to put your opinion , your reader don't want to read your view all what they want is the facts and the real.

 

Honesty :

You are as  a journalist have to be  honest .Honest with your reader  in any issue you write about and don't lying  .

Make sure that your sources is honest in their information  which they give  it to you.

 Also, you have to make duple check  for the news  which your receive it  to avoid  the problems.

Be ready :

Any time you receive information that their is an story happend  you have to be ready to go and  get information .

You have to be ready and prepare your pen, notebook , tap record  and sure don't forget your camera to take it with you.
